This course is designed to equip professionals and caregivers with the knowledge and strategies necessary to support young children through the often challenging experience of supervised visitation. This webinar will explore the impact of visitation on a child’s emotional and psychological well-being, highlight common trauma responses, and present trauma-informed strategies to foster a sense of safety and connection during these visits.

Participants will gain insights into child-centered practices that promote emotional regulation and resilience, as well as ways to create positive interactions between children and their family members. Through a mix of research-based guidance and practical applications, attendees will leave feeling empowered to enhance the supervised visitation experience for children, ensuring their voices and needs are recognized and met.

Objectives

  1. Identify five common emotional and behavioral responses of young children during supervised visitation and the underlying trauma triggers that may affect their experiences.

  2. Learn three strategies to create a safe, predictable, and supportive environment that prioritizes the child’s well-being and mitigates potential re-traumatization.

  3. Implement three child-centered approaches to help young children express their feelings, manage anxiety, and build resilience in the context of supervised visitation.

  4. Explore five techniques to facilitate meaningful and supportive interactions between children and their family members, fostering stronger connections and improving the overall experience of visitation.
