Description

In this session, we will start on a historical journey to explore some of the ideologies, behaviors and treatments that have impacted how survivors of IPV, and family violence are serviced. We will examine systemic and cultural barriers that are faced today by many communities of color and those who face disparities because of sexual status, age, gender as examples and the many more that exist.

Objectives

  1. List and describe historical perspectives to consider when providing services to marginalized groups.

  2. Describe strategies that address gaps in serving survivors. 

  3. List ways to engage the community and shift power.

  4. Name ways to dismantle myths surrounding survivors and victims from marginalized communities.
